Is the CT2 espresso machine suitable for beginners?
Yes, the CT2 is the perfect entry point for learning about espresso. The lever method gives you complete control of the extraction process, which makes it very responsive and forgiving for users of all levels.
The CT2 is designed for users who appreciate hands-on control over their espresso-making process. It offers a rewarding experience for those willing to experiment and refine their technique. While many users achieve satisfactory results within a few days, mastering the machine's full potential may take longer depending on your previous experience, grinder quality, and dedication to the learning process.
We created a brewing guide which explains the basics. You will find yourself rapidly improving as you get used to the process.
The CT2 is also simple to clean and maintain due to its easy-to-remove piston. If you use filtered water, you will need to clean and lube the piston seals and shower screen approximately once every three months. This only takes five minutes. Every moving part is visible and removable. Our service guide takes you through the steps. The service kit we offer contains a general but good lubrication, so no further need for specialist tools or products.
Where are Strietman machines made?
Design, development, quality control, and prototype building is done at our studio. All machines are assembled and tested at the Strietman factory in Weesp. Manufactured in the Netherlands, all metal components are CNC-machined from high-grade materials to exacting standards. The sub-components and electronics are sourced from the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
Is it possible to collect the machine at the Strietman factory?
We do not offer factory pickups. All orders are shipped exclusively with UPS Express to ensure secure and reliable delivery.
Do you run sales or promotions?
Strietman does not offer promotions or sales on any of our products. The prices on our website are direct sales prices.
Can we see the machine in real life?

Service
What standard care does the CT2 need?
With proper care the CT2 will outlast any conventional espresso machine. If used daily (3-4 espresso per day), we recommend cleaning the piston and shower screen once every month. Depending on the hardness of your water, we recommend descaling once every 2-3 months.
Under normal wear, the piston seals will last for 5 years or longer. When they eventually need replacing, you can find all compatible seals, spare parts, and accessories in our shop.
Will I still be able to get replacement parts for the CT2 in the future?
Yes, as a manufacturer we are committed to supporting you and your machine as long as we can. We will always be available for any type of service question.
How easy is it to service the CT2?
The CT2 is simple to clean and maintain due to the easy-to-remove piston. If you use filtered water, you will need to clean and lube the piston seals approximately once every three months. This only takes five minutes. Every moving part is visible and removable. Our service guide leads you through the steps.
Can I find seals and parts at a local retail / parts shop?
No, all service parts are custom-made for Strietman machines. Although most parts are based on standard sizes and proven forms, we were not happy with the quality of available parts. Official Strietman parts are manufactured to a much higher quality than the industry standard.
How can I protect the outside of the machine from stains?
You can apply a light coating of acid-free grease to protect the brass and copper elements. We explain how to do this here.
What kind of lubricant should I use on the seals?
We advise you to use a food-safe silicone grease. Please check our service guide.
Compatibility
Can I get a Strietman CT2 for use in the US?
Yes, we supply machines suitable for the American 115V network, with a 3-pin US plug.
Can I get a CT2 with a specific plug?
Yes, we can supply the CT2 with any readily available plug on request. Please get in touch via e-mail to discuss the possibilities.
Do you supply a pressure gauge?
No, we encourage you to trust your senses. After using the CT2 for yourself, you will quickly realize you don’t need a pressure gauge. Please check our brewing guide for more advice.
Is it possible to get a CT2 with a PID?
No, we deliberately chose to equip the CT2 with a simple-yet-accurate German manual thermostat. These are service-free and have an incredibly long lifespan when compared to a PID.
Usage
Does the CT2 overheat?
No, due to the open boiler design and advanced temperature management the machine won’t overheat.
Can I get a 1:3 ratio espresso shot?
Yes, please check our brewing guide for extraction advice.
Can I pull multiple shots without refilling the boiler?
Yes, the boiler holds up to 350cc, so you will even be able to preheat your cup with some of the hot water.
How do I get the largest shot possible?
The maximum shot volume is around 50cc. To achieve this, you should slowly raise the lever to the highest point before extraction begins. This should take about 4 to 6 seconds. Lifting the lever too quickly will suck in air, reducing your shot volume.
Will pre-infusion damage the coffee puck structure?
No. In contrast to most lever machines, the CT2 doesn’t generate any negative pressure on the puck while the lever is depressed. This is due to the open boiler and the unique centre-hole piston design. This allows for subtle gravity-fed pre-infusion – without any boiler pressure – from the moment you lift the lever.
How is the learning curve with the CT2?
From the feedback we receive, most new users can produce a decent shot within two days of receiving the machine. After a week you will be familiar with its usage and should be able to produce excellent results. The manual lever mechanism of the CT2 provides unparalleled control over the brewing process, but it is best suited for those willing to invest time in understanding and mastering the technique. Please check our brewing guide for more advice.
Does the CT2 work well with light roast beans?
Yes, the CT2 is well suited for lighter roasts. Check our brewing guide to discover why.
